Research Shows That Hypnosis Enhances Fertility

Research concludes that "the use of hypnosis during ET may significantly improve the IVF/ET cycle outcome in terms of increased implantation and clinical pregnancy rates".

Recent studies into the use of hypnotherapy with IVF/ET treatment demonstrate a marked increase in fertility, and in successful pregnancies. Ursula James, Visiting Teaching Fellow of Oxford University Medical School has further studied this data and created a Fertility CD based on the research that has proved to be very successful as it is easy to use, and does not require a visit to a hypnotherapy practitioner.

Research from the University Medical Centre, Beer-Sheva Israel, concludes that

the use of hypnosis during ET may significantly improve the IVF/ET cycle outcome in terms of increased implantation and clinical pregnancy rates. Furthermore, it seems that the patients’ attitude to the treatment was more favorable.
By adding hypnotherapy to more mainstream medical approaches to fertility enhancement the results speak for themselves. The benefits include more relaxed prospective parents and more receptive mothers. There is also research data which shows that the babies born of relaxed mothers are more likely to be calm themselves, with better sleeping patterns. Evidence is also available that medication required during labour is reduced, as is the incidence of post-partum depression in women who have experienced hypnosis or learned hypnotherapy prior to, and during pregnancy. Hypnotherapy is cheap, easy to learn and simple to administer. As a result, expect hypnosis and hypnotherapy to move closer to mainstream medicine over the next few years.

Ursula explains

One of the main problems with trying to get pregnant is that it creates stress in both parties. In my work with couples who are attempting to conceive, this stress can have a major impact on the relationship between the couple.

Along with much of the literature on the subject, I realised that once the pressure to try is off – the couple are much more likely to conceive a child together.

Get a dog! Adopt, or simply forget about a baby are all suggestions which couples have been given, either by professionals or by friends and family. Using hypnotherapeutic techniques is a much more effective way of reducing stress, while at the same time, using the state of hypnosis to deliver effective and positive suggestions which assist the whole process of conception, whether natural or assisted.

Ursula James is Visiting Teaching Fellow at Oxford University Medical School, and honorary lecturer at Barts and The London Medical School. With her team, she teaches clinical hypnosis to medical students at 11 UK medical schools.
